Who am I?
I've been a vet since 1991 and have worked across the whole profession — 24 years in mixed practice, then small animal, and now as a cardiologist in referral practice.
Over those years I learned as much about people as about medicine: how teams work, how to lead them well, and what doesn't work. For the last 15 years I've also worked as a personal and business coach, focused on communication and teams.
I think we have an amazing profession, but I see more and more people burning out, leaving, or sitting in tears at the end of a hard day. It affected me enough that I was ready to walk away. Then I realised the skill set I'd built over all those years might be exactly what could help.
People First was born from a simple belief: put our people first and we can turn around a lot of what's dragging the profession down. When people feel looked after, they look after our clients - who look after our businesses. It's about building stronger, happier practices by putting people back at the heart of them.
